Holistic Philosophy For Radiant Skin

 

Our lives can be busy, so giving ourselves permission to slow down and live a little more mindfully can bring a sense of comfort and calm back into our everyday lives. Self-care and wellbeing go hand in hand, caring for ourselves allows us to care better for those close to us.

In my skincare studio, I aim to create a calm and peaceful place for you to be still and rested, to give you time to reconnect with your inner self, to feel restored and in perfect harmony with yourself and the world around you.

The therapeutic healing power of plants is at the centre of my skincare philosophy. I was drawn to natural beauty and holistic health practices from a need to feel connected with our natural world. We are not separate from nature but part of it.

In my skin care practice, I use gentle, rhythmical touch, to stimulate and support the lymphatic system, traditional holistic beauty techniques to firm and tone the skin and organic whole plant preparations that combine cutting-edge plant science with the gentle purity of nature, to awaken activity within the skin. The skin is visibly rejuvenated, the facial muscles softened and smoothed as tension is released and the mind and body relax as stress melts away.

I have a four-fold philosophy for achieving healthy radiant skin whatever your skincare concern or whatever age you are. 

 

1. Natural Organic Whole Plant Preparations
Our skin is alive, lifeless chemicals can not give life and vibrancy to it. Plant nutrients are so powerful for supporting the healthy ageing of our body as a whole. As with the vitality of the foods we eat, the vitality of the products we apply to our skin supports our vital energy, essential for healthy skin-body functioning.

Fresh whole plants are bursting with active phytonutrients, vitamins, antioxidants and anti-inflammatories, as well as the essential co-factors needed for our skin to absorb and use to full effect. These powerful plant nutrients support our skin's microbiome, stimulate collagen and elastin formation, to support healing, repair and detoxification, helping us to achieve healthy glowing, vibrant skin whatever age we are.

 

2. Supportive Touch
Is a vital element in any effective approach to skin health. Regular facials using principles of lymph stimulation and gentle, mindful fascia massage support skin cell production and renewal and the delicate structures of the skin are strengthened. The flow of stagnant waste is coaxed and reawakened to maximum effect, collagen and elastin production is enhanced to tone and firm the muscles of the face, visibly reducing lines and puffiness. This supports the skin's inherent ability to heal and imbues the skin with a natural glow.

The muscles of the face are delicate often attaching to other muscles rather to bone, care should always be taken to respect these delicate muscle-to-muscle attachments. 

Less gentle touch and more aggressive approaches such as chemical peels, isolated 'natural' acid peels or higher strength retinol which work by invoking a cellular inflammatory response,  essentially a healing crisis of the skin. These affect not only the dead cells on the surface of our skin but the living skin cells too. When we 'attack' these cells, messages are sent, setting up a whole wave of inflammatory reactions that inhibit healthy cell functioning (including elastin and collagen production) and that ultimately leads to accelerated ageing over time.

 

3. Diet and Nutrition
As a nutritionist, it’s no surprise that I believe what we eat not only has an impact on our overall health but is crucial when it comes to achieving a healthy radiant complexion. Feeding the skin from within with the essential building blocks is where it all begins.

Food is one of the most powerful tools we have, a healthy, balanced, plant-rich diet, with good quality protein, that supplies us with the vital nutrients we need and ensures we drink plenty of water to keep hydrated from within, will support healthy skin, body and mind and help you achieve a truly luminous complexion.

 

4. Healthy Balanced Lifestyle
The way we approach each day and the choices we make can have a dramatic effect on our physical health, our emotional wellbeing and appearance of our skin.

The demands we face can make it difficult to get enough exercise, quality sleep or eat well, but setting our intentions mindfully can help us to start putting into practice the changes we wish to make. 

When we create space in our lives for positivity, we create an environment for healing and strength to carry us forward.

It’s about finding balance, being grateful for the little things, and doing the things that make our hearts sing and bring us joy.
