The Glow of Vibrant Skin

The Glow of Vibrant Skin

The Glow of Vibrant Skin

'Dewy Skin', it's a term we hear a lot on social media.

What does it really mean? How do you achieve it? And is it truly possible, or just the result of good lighting and makeup.

For me healthy, vibrant skin is more than just its dew factor. It's about the balance of hydration and moisture, efficient cellular and lymphatic cleansing, a strong barrier, the ability of the skin to regenerate and of course nourishing the skin from the inside out (you'll find a link at the end to get access to my Radiant Skin Diet).

These elements work together to create a foundation for skin that is radiant, vibrant, clear, and yes, dewy.

Achieving skin vibrancy isn't just about what products you use - it's about the steps you take to get there.

Hydration and Moisture
Dry and dehydrated skin are not the same. Dry skin is a result of the skin not producing enough oils to keep it moisturised and protect it from the environment, it can feel rough to the touch and even look flaky.

Dehydrated skin, on the other hand, doesn't have enough water in the uppermost layer of the skin. It can feel tight, look dull and lackluster and may even have a slightly sunken appearance making lines look more prominent.

An optimal balance of water and oil are key to maximum dewiness, when talking products, layering a generous misting of your chosen Lusan Essence under your Serum or Balm is key. And for an extra dewy boost, mist with an Essence or Hydrosol over makeup and throughout the day.

Exfoliation
Glowing skin and dewiness isn't just about moisture but also texture. For lots of people this means exfoliating, with either a traditional manual ‘scrub’ or with chemical acids and peels to remove what is percieved as rough skin.

In the treatment studio I regularly see the results of over exfoliation from products and treatments. The outer layer of our skin provides protection, and together with our skin microbiome it is our first line of defence. When it is removed our skin may at first appear plump and juicy because of the young immature fluid filled cells beneath.

However these immature cells aren't ready to be exposed. Substances that remove the outer layers of the epidermis and disrupt the skin microbiome, are affecting its ability to provide protection. This causes a healing crisis within the skin, that over time weakens the skin and actually accelerates the ageing process.

Our cells are turning over and shedding everyday, our skin only needs a gentle helping hand to remove those that have completed their life cycle, while supporting those plump fluid filled cells still within their life cycle. By cleansing daily with a soft Muslin Cloth and Purity Cleanser the spent cells and surface debris are removed. The honey enzymes in Purity Cleanser help with any ‘stuck’ cells allowing your skin’s radiance to shine through.

Barrier Support
Our skin is where the inside meets the outside and a healthy skin barrier protects by preventing moisture and nutrient loss from inside and ensuring harmful substances, bacteria etc remain on the outside.

The fatty acid profiles of the lipids and whole plant actives in Lusan Serums and Balm help repair, strengthen and support skin barrier function and nourish the skin microbiome, locking in hydration and providing essential moisture while providing a layer of protection.

It's no surprise to me that Vitality Serum won 'Best Serum for Barrier Repair' in the recent Beauty Shortlist Awards.

Skincare From the Inside Out
If you're using the Lusan daily skincare ritual, you will be getting plenty of topical essential nutrients. But skin health starts within, what we feed our bodies with is arguably more important for all round skin health and wellbeing.

We need to ensure we drink plenty of water to hydrate our cells from the inside, a minimum of 2 litres per day, which can include herbal teas and water flavoured with fresh fruit or herbs such as cucumber, berries, lemon, lime, ginger and rosemary.

Our food provides the fundamental building blocks to produce strong healthy skin cells, and to ensure our liver and lymphatic system receive the nutrients to carry out the necessary cleansing and detoxification functions. To give our skin (and our body) the ability to do this we need to include whole, unprocessed foods rich in healthy fats, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals in our diet.

As part of some my Holistic Facial Programmes I include a 3 week Radiant Skin Eating Plan to support internal skin health. It includes over 50 recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner as well as snacks. If you'd like more information about these programmes please reach out.
