Clary Sage

Salvia scalarea

Clary Sage is a flowering herb native to the UK. It has been used widely in herbal medicine for centuries. The Romans made an eyewash and used it for varying women’s health concerns. In Traditional Chinese Medicine it was also used for the eyes to prevent ocular degeneration, improve vision and clear the eye of irritation. The ancient Greeks made a solution by mixing the seeds with water was used to treat swelling.

Clary Sage essential oil has potent antimicrobial properties, significant studies have shown that it inhibits the growth of several species of pathogenic bacteria and fungi on the skin's epidermis. Its antimicrobial activity is effective for soothing wounds, promoting healing and reducing inflammation.

The essential oil has been shown to promote clear and calm skin, by regulating sebum production and stimulating blood circulation, it also helps to prevent and minimise scarring and hyperpigmentation associated with acne.

I use an organic certified Clary Sage oil from France, produced by traditional steam distillation.
