Lunaria

Lunaria annua,

The Latin name Lunaria means "moon-shaped" and refers to the shape and appearance of the silicles (seed capsules). The common name "honesty" arose in the 16th century, and may also relate to the translucence of its silicle membranes.

It is a species of flowering plant in the Brassica (cabbage) family. The leaves can be collected and used as a green vegetable or in salads, the flowers are edible and look very pretty added to salads.

Lunaria is a robust and hardy plant, that is generally untroubled by pests, it grows very easily with little human intervention, meaning that it has a low environmental impact. But what’s more crucial is that it's recognised by the Royal Horticultural Society as being of benefit to the local insect population, as it is perfect for butterflies and other pollinators.

Our Lunari Oil is sourced directly from the grower here in the UK and is grown as part of a Bee Friendly project to support safe habitats for these special little creatures.

For the Skin
Lunaria oil has a rich and luxurious skin feel while still being a fairly light oil that is easily absorbed.

It is an effective natural moisturiser, improving skin hydration, firmness and elasticity and improving the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles for supported healthful ageing.

The Essential fatty acids in Lunaria Oil support a healthy barrier function It is suitable for the most sensitive skin and even infant skin care. As a plant source of ceramides, it helps to strengthen the outermost layer of skin protecting the underlying tissues from dehydration.

Erucic acid acid helps promote skin cell growth and repair. Furthermore, it is a very long chain fatty acid that is thought to better control transepidermal water loss than other fatty acids. It soothes the skin, reducing redness and improving the health of the moisture barrier.

Containing 25% Nervonic Acid, this fatty acid is classified as a sphingolipid. Sphingolipids are important communicators across cells and their role in skincare is to help preserve the integrity of cell membranes.
