Yarrow

Achillea millefolium

The yarrow plant is found throughout North America, Europe and Asia, it requires little fuss and will grow on grassland banks, verges, pastures even wastelands. Its flat-topped clusters of flowers appear from June and provide an excellent source of nectar for bees. The Wildlife Trust has identified it as being of significant benefit to insect ecosystems.

Its name Achillea comes from the fact that it was used to treat soldier's wounds in the battle of Troy. Revered by the ancient Greeks and Egyptians, yarrow was traditionally used as a skin healer.

Yarrow is a potent medicinal plant that helps keep infection at bay while encouraging a more rapid healing of wounds and scar tissue. With its soothing action, it brings relief to itchy, irritated skin.

Its cleansing, purifying, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties combined with its ability to balance oil production make it a great ally for acne-prone skin. However its soothing and comforting qualities mean it’s gentle on even the most sensitive skin and due to its repairing and wound-healing properties it is supportive of the barrier function, benefiting all skin types.

Our UK biodynamically grown yarrow flower is infused in-house for 6 weeks to capture all its repairing and soothing qualities. I also use these flowers in facial cleansing tisanes in my treatment studio. And we have a beautiful traditional steam-distilled, certified organic hydrosol from France.
